L’an dernier, nous avons fait un road trip en Croatie (article à découvrir ici) et visité un certain nombre de villes. Aujourd’hui nous allons vous parler de notre première escale : la ville de Split.

La beauté de cette ville attire de plus en plus de touristes grâce à son emplacement et son histoire. L’influence romaine s’exprime dans le coeur de la ville de Split qui a été construit à l’intérieur et autour du palais de Dioclétien.

Last year we went on a road trip in Croatia (discover our post here) and visited a couple of cities. 
Today we will talk about our first stop: the city of Split.

The beauty of this city attracts more and more tourists thanks to its spot and its history. The architecture of the city, which is built inside and around the Diocletian’s palace, reveals the Roman influence.

COMMENT SE RENDRE A SPLIT/ HOW TO GET TO SPLIT

Comme indiqué dans notre précédent article, nous avions atterri à Zadar. Le lendemain matin, nous nous sommes rendues à la gare routière pour prendre un car local en direction de Split. Vous avez la possibilité de prendre des cars qui empruntent l’autoroute en passant par Skradin, ce qui vous permet de faire un trajet de 2 heures seulement pour vous rendre à Split.

As written in our previous post, we landed in Zadar. The next morning we went to the bus station to take a local coach to Split. Some coaches take the highway via Skradin and bring you to Split in only 2 hours.

OU SE LOGER A SPLIT ? / WHERE TO SLEEP IN SPLIT?

Nous étions logés dans un “Apartman” trouvé sur AirBnB situé entre la Riva et le Marjan Hill. L’hôte était adorable et accueillante et l’appartement était parfaitement situé pour se promener en ville.

We found an ‘Apartman’ on AirBnb  located between the Riva and the Marjan Hill. The host was wonderful and welcoming and the appartment was perfectly located for walking around the city.

 QUE FAIRE A SPLIT / WHAT TO DO IN SPLIT

Une des premiers lieux que vous allez découvrir en arrivant à Split est la promenade de la Riva avec ses hauts palmiers et ses terrasses animées.  Au bout de la Riva, vous verrez la Place de la République.

One of the first places you will discover in Split is the Promenade of the Riva with its high palm trees and bustling terraces. At the end of the Riva, you will see the Republic square ‘Trg Republike’.

A notre grande surprise, nous avons fait un voyage dans le temps en découvrant le palais de Dioclétien datant du 4^ème siècle.

En faisant le tour du palais du Dioclétien, vous trouverez quatre portes axiales (porte d’Or ‘Zlatna vrata’ au nord, porte d’Argent ‘Srebrna vrata’ à l’est, porte de Bronze ‘Mjedne vrata’ au sud, porte de Fer ‘Željezna vrata’ à l’ouest). En passant par la porte de Bronze on peut accéder aux salles souterraines « Podrumi »

To our great surprise we travelled through time by discovering the Diocletian’s Palace from the 4th century.

When you walk around the Diocletian’s Palace you will find four axial gates (Golden gate ‘Zlatna vrata’ in the North, Silver gate ‘Srebrna vrata’ in the East, Bronze gate ‘Mjedne vrata’ in the South, Iron gate ‘Željezna vrata’ in the West). 

Pour 45kn (monnaie locale), vous avez la possibilité de visiter la Cathédrale Saint-Domnius ‘Katedrala Sv. Dujma’ en dehors des heures de messes, Riznica treasury, la crypte, le campanile, et le Temple de Jupiter ‘Jupiterov hram’

For 45kn (local currency) you can visit the Cathedral of Saint-Domnius ‘Katedrala Sv. Dujma’ outside the mass schedule, Riznica treasury, the crypt, the bell tower, and the Temple of Jupiter ‘Jupiterov hram’

Dans la vieille ville, on trouve pleins de ruelles étroites et de vestiges romains autour de grandes places animées.

In the old town you will see lots of narrow little streets and Roman vestiges around large lively squares.

Pour avoir une vue imprenable sur la mer et la ville de Split, nous vous conseillons fortement d’aller sur le Marjan Hill idéalement au moment du coucher de soleil. La vue est magnifique et la température est beaucoup plus agréable pour se promener !

For a stunning view on the sea and the city of Split, we highly advise you to go on the Marjan Hill ideally during the sunset. The view is splendid and the temperature is much enjoyable to walk around!

 Et pour ceux qui souhaitent se baigner, nous vous conseillons d’aller à la plage Bačvice.

And for those who want to swim we suggest you to go on Bačvice beach.

OU MANGER A SPLIT / WHERE TO EAT IN SPLIT

Si vous souhaitez tester des plats croates, nous vous conseillons d’aller aux Konobas (restaurants traditionnels).  Vous pouvez y manger des « Crni rizŏt » un risotto à l’encre de sèche, ou bien des « pašticada » un plat traditionnel de bœuf servi avec des gnocchis fait maison.

Vous trouverez ci-dessous notre bonne adresse de Konoba à Split. Nous vous conseillons de réserver une place pour être sûr de pouvoir déjeuner ou dîner surtout à l’extérieur.

If you want to try Croatian dishes we advise you to go the Konobas (traditional restaurants).
You can eat some ‘Crni rizŏt’ a black risotto, or some ‘pašticada’ a traditional beef dish served with homemade gnocchis. 

You will find below our good address for a Konoba in Split. We recommend you to book a table to be sure to have lunch or diner especially outside.
